Tips for creating a rustic wedding theme

Tips for creating a rustic wedding theme

A cosy alternative to the formality of a grand wedding, it’s little wonder that rustic weddings have become so popular in recent years. As well as their more intimate, rural atmosphere, rustic weddings often also have the advantage of being a little easier on the budget. Here are our tips for creating the perfect rustic wedding.

1. Get married outdoors

Nothing says ‘rustic country wedding’ like an outdoor ceremony. Our exquisite gazebo is an idyllic rural setting for your rustic wedding, surrounded by ancient walls, immaculate lawns and wisteria walkways, and with a backdrop of green rolling hills.

2. Rustic finishing touches

Opt for a natural palette for your colour scheme, with nature as your inspiration. Greens and yellows work well for summer weddings, while oranges and browns are perfect for autumn. If you’ve gone for an outdoor wedding, you could have bales of straw, barrels or logs for guests to sit on, and you could decorate with rustic hessian bunting.

3. An English country menu

Forget formal gourmet dishes; traditional English favourites work well on a rustic wedding breakfast menu. Simple dishes such as bangers and mash or cottage pie bring a homely atmosphere to your celebrations, while a hog roast or barbecue are a great choice if you want to keep the festivities outdoors.

4. An alternative wedding cake

For a rustic wedding cake with more of a homemade look, skip the icing and opt for a ‘naked’ cake decorated with seasonal berries and flowers. Alternatively, do away with a traditional cake altogether and choose a tempting stack of cheese wheels.

5. Simple table decorations

Simplicity is the order of the day when it comes to rustic table decorations, so swap formal bouquets for jam jars full of wildflowers. There’s no need for a tablecloth; bare wood will help with the rural vibes. Don’t forget fairy lights to give everything a whimsical, twinkling look.
