5 UK ‘minimoon’ destination ideas

There’s no two ways about it: weddings are expensive. With all your funds being taken up on your big day, there might not be much left for a big honeymoon straight after, and that’s why many couples are now saving their big holiday for a few months after getting married. Not only that, but if you’re planning your honeymoon to a part of the world best visited at a particular time of year, you might have a bit of a wait after your wedding. In the meantime, many couples head off on a post-wedding minibreak, known as a ‘minimoon’. Here’s some inspiration with a few of our favourite UK minimoon destinations.

1. Cornwall

Walking hand-in-hand along Cornwall’s sandy beaches and dramatic clifftops. Sharing a delicious Cornish pasty. Buying ice creams in a cute little fishing village. You don’t have to be a fan of Poldark for Cornwall to make the perfect minimoon destination.

2. The Lake District

Escape to a picturesque cottage in the Lake District and you’ll wake up to world-renowned scenery. Whether you’re walking up into the hills or enjoying a cruise on the famous Ullswater Steamers, this National Park makes for a truly spectacular minimoon.

3. The Scottish Highlands

Head to the Scottish Highlands and stay a couple of nights in a romantic old castle, climbing mountains or wandering along the shores of lochs by day and whiskey tasting by night.

4. The Cotswolds

Idyllic villages and rolling green hills await on a minibreak to the Cotswolds. Stay in a country house hotel or rent a wisteria-clad cottage and have your camera ready to capture picture-postcard places like Snowshill, Broadway and Bibury.

5. London

If you prefer the bustle of the city, you can’t beat London for a minibreak. Spend your days strolling around the National Gallery or Natural History Museum, and in the evening see a West End show or dine in a Michelin-starred restaurant.
