Social media ideas for your wedding
Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, there are lots of ways to make your wedding day even more fun and special. While you don’t want your guests constantly on their phones, you can harness the power of social media to make it easy for guests to share their photos and for far-flung guests to take part in the fun. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
1. Create your own hashtag
Get your guests to use a special hashtag when they post pictures of your wedding and you’ll have a quick way of accessing everyone’s comments and photos from your big day on Twitter and Instagram. Make it unique to you, so that only your wedding will feature on it – #RobinsonWedding2019, for example. Make sure you let your guests know about it by leaving cards dotted around your venue asking them to tag their photos with your hashtag.
2. Live stream your wedding
If you have friends and family who can’t make it to your wedding – perhaps due to illness or living abroad – why not use Facebook Live to stream your wedding and let them join in the fun? You could appoint someone to take charge of the live broadcast, and you can set up a private group if you’d rather limit its audience.
3. Live Twitter feed
A fun addition to the traditional guestbook is to get your guests to tweet messages of advice and support for the bride and groom, again using your personal hashtag. You could then set up a screen in your reception room with a live feed of the hashtag, so that guests will be able to see their messages in giant form. For added fun, leave a card on each table asking them to tweet their advice on specific questions, such as the secret to a happy marriage. The cheekier, the better!
4. Shared photo album
After your wedding, you’ll have a bit of a wait for your official photos, but you can start reliving the day through your guests’ photos right away. You can now invite people to contribute to your photo albums on Facebook, so set one up for your wedding and change the settings to allow your guests to add their photos to it. That way, you’ll have lots of happy memories to look back on while you’re on your honeymoon!
