5 DIY wedding ideas
There’s no getting away from the fact that getting married is an expensive business, but the good news is that you can bring down the cost of your wedding by getting stuck into making a few things for it yourselves. Not only will your creativity and handiwork save you money, but it’s also a lovely way to make your big day a bit more personal to you. Here are some ideas to get you started.
1. Decorations
From flower arrangements to adorn the aisle to creative table centrepieces for your reception, you’d be amazed at how easy it can be to create your own wedding decorations. Pinterest is a great place to look for inspiration and find simple crafting instructions; this DIY wedding ideas board is just one example.
2. Invitations
Invitations can easily be designed and printed at home yourself, saving you money by alleviating the need for an expensive stationer. Search online for ‘free wedding invitation templates’ and you’ll find plenty to choose from that won’t cost you a penny.
3. Table plan
Instead of paying for a professionally designed table plan, buy a big photo frame (IKEA have some fantastic affordable ones) and intersperse photos of the two of you with printed lists of who’s on which table.
4. Cake
If one of you is a ‘Star Baker’, or you have a friend or relative who is, then making your own cake will save you a considerable amount over the cost of buying one. Here are some great tips for baking your own wedding cake.
5. Favours
Do you have a talent that you could turn to making a favour for each guest to take home? Whether you’re a dab hand at origami or you make a mean chocolate truffle, a handmade gift can be more thoughtful than a shop-bought one, as well as less expensive.
